Greetings and salutations from Kiana Alaska,
November and December's 2008 newsletter,
Although December 21 is the first day of winter, here in Kiana we know it is winter by November 1, when our temperatures dip down below zero and the sun dips down below the horizon.
November 1
There has been several of us coming together singing and on Saturday night we meet at the Friends Pastor Cabin
November 2
I have had the opportunity to preach the first Sunday of every month at the Kiana friends church evening service, a real God thing, praise the Lord.
November 4
I went to Anchorage to have an MRI and have my knees injected with chicken grease which is a nickname for the lubricant they put in my knees, there was three injections in each knee that had to be a week apart so I had to be in Anchorage three consecutive Wednesdays. I do believe it has helped.
The MRI I had done on my lower back showed that I have spondylosis which is a fusion of vertebrae or something like that and it showed that I have very little to space in my lower back but they're not going to do anything about it at this time. They want to wait until it gets worse?
November 7
Our Friday night movie nights have been having good numbers.
November 9
We begin practice for our Christmas program that we will be doing December 14 at the Kiana Friends Church.
November 10-11th I attended the executive board meetings for Alaska Baptist convention while I was in Anchorage.
November 13
On my way home from Anchorage I had to spend the night in Kotzebue because of icing in the Bush flights canceled at his home the next day.
November 15
Zack and Jennifer received snow-go that John Forrester from First Baptist Kotzebue is letting them use. They like having the snow go to get around on.
November 18
I went to Anchorage for final injection on my knees and came home on the 20th all went well.
Also on November 20 there was a lady here in Kiana that gave birth in her home with just her family and that's the way she wanted it, mother and child are both well.
And some really exciting news Zack and Jennifer find out that they are pregnant.
November 21
Temperatures dip below -30 some people remember too late that extra precautions need to be taken in temperatures for that low the Friends Pastor Cabin water lines froze up but were able to get them going again.
There was also a man from China that came here and asked if we could help him out he had been here a couple of other times he said and spent a month in a tent even with our temperatures dropping to 30 below he was in a tent. He was getting ready to leave Kiana and needed help getting his stuff to the airport, he comes here just to take pictures.
November 26
Kiana school had their Thanksgiving program and a dinner at school it is always fun to go out to dinner here even though it's only at the school. LOL
November 27
Kim, Alexis, Zack, Jennifer and I shared a Thanksgiving dinner together we had a great time and plenty of food.
November 28
We had talked about taking a trip to Noorvik by snow-go but that morning it was 20 below and I said are you sure you want to go back and Jennifer said they were up for the trip but Kim and Alexis said no way. When we got down to Noorvik the temperatures had dropped to 30 below, Jennifer said when she saw Noorvik from a distance she was sure glad that we were about there the only thing that had bothered her were her feet and hands we got her some better gloves for the way back and that her toes just had to get toughen up. Seriously we had a good trip and they could visit Noorvik.
December 3
There was a lady that had grown up here in Kiana and was living in Anchorage that passed away and her funeral was on December 8.
December 7
I continued with the opportunity of preaching that the evening service at Kiana Friends Church.

December 24
There was a young lady that attempted suicide, she survived and now is in a treatment center, please pray for her.
December 30
There was a man that attempted suicide, I believe he only survived by the grace of God. Now please pray that he will find God's will for his life.
December 31

Here in the Northwest Arctic Borough there has been many deaths in the month of December and many of them have been suicides. Please pray that the strongholds of the dark forces of this world have so many lives will be broken and the true light of the Lord can shine through.
I have a special prayer request to ask that you would lift Kim up in prayer for she will be going to Anchorage to have two crowns put in her mouth and also to see a doctor about some problems that she has been having that I won't mention at this time but just asked for you to specially to lift her health up to the Lord.
Update on Jerry:
Hello to all,
We just returned home from our trip to the Mayo Clinic this week. It turned
out as well as could be expected after a lot of see-sawing for a couple of
days. In the beginning the Pulmonologist thought the mass in my lung was
most likely caused by scarring resulting from the radiation treatments I had
last year. However, he decided to have my scans reviewed by a radiologist
which led to my having a bronchoscopy. I think the doctors were pretty sure
they would find cancer cells in my lung; I wouldn't be surprised if they had
bets on it.. lol. The bottom line is they found NO CANCER!!! They do
think I need to have another scan in February and, if the mass has grown,
have another bronchoscopy.
As for our trip, it went well if you like sub-freezing temperatures and wind
chills down near zero at times. We only had 2 or 3 inches of snow while
there but it was enough to make the roads, and our vehicle, a mess. In
spite of the weather we did some geocaching while we were there. We tried
to make sure we wouldn't have to walk too far because the weather conditions
could quickly make us short of breath. At least we were smart enough to
have some long johns and good boots and jackets; and blessed enough to have
healthy enough bodies to get out and tramp around.
We hope all of you are enjoying God's blessings and wish you the Happiest of
Holiday Seasons in celebration of the birth of our Savior, Christ Jesus.
Jerry and Donna
Update on Jackie:
Her PET & CAT scan results show there is more cancer in her chest
and in the right lobe by the liver. She will see the Dr. again on the 2nd
